Psalm 23

Postby Hal4511 » Wed Jun 20, 2012 8:38 pm

I thought we might need this ...

The Lord is my shepherd;
I shall not want.

2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters.

3 He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.

4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil;
For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You anoint my head with oil;
My cup runs over.

6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
All the days of my life;
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord
Forever

Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed—in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 1 Corinthians 15:51-52

Ok, this is probably nothing but I have been thinking on Psalm 23 myself for a few days.  Especially the walking through the shadow of death.  Note how it doesn't say you are not walking though death, only the shadow of it.  I am just wonder what that means.  I have always took it to be someone dying but I am thinking that may not be the meaning.

It kinda strikes ma about the verse where it says we see thru a glass darkly.

I love the 23rd Psalm.  Phillip Keller has a book on it. He was a shepherd and he goes into a great deal about the sheep and their reliance on the shepherd. It is an inspiring read.

I have always took it to be someone dying but I am thinking that may not be the meaning.

I believe the meaning reflects on the fact that Jesus Christ defeated death at the cross.  Therefore, for all those who believe in Him and His sacrifice on the cross for us, death can have no damage or hold on us.  Death for us is like a shadow.  When we walk through a shadow, it has no effect on us.  The same with our own physical death.  We walk through the shadow of death but death for the believer is nothing to fear.   Unless we are raptured, we will walk through the shadow of death to find ourselves bathed in the Glorious Light of the One Who died for us.  How great is that?
